UAE to automatically open traffic files for residents who turn 18
text_fieldsThe UAE Ministry of Interior has announced a new initiative aimed at simplifying traffic services and reducing bureaucracy as part of the country's 'Zero Government Bureaucracy' programme. One of the most notable updates is the automatic opening of traffic files for residents as soon as they turn 18. These young residents will receive an SMS notification when their traffic file is opened, allowing them to immediately engage with the UAE’s driving services.
As part of the programme, 11 new services have been introduced to streamline processes in the vehicle and driving licence sections. These updates aim to reduce service times significantly, cutting through bureaucratic delays and providing faster, more efficient solutions for residents.
One of the key changes is the automatic issuance of parking permits for people of determination, ensuring they can easily access necessary services. Additionally, the process of obtaining replacement digital plates for lost or damaged ones has been simplified, with notifications now available through digital channels. Changes in vehicle ownership data can now also be completed digitally, further speeding up the process.
The initiative also includes a new feature that allows residents to insert their driving licence and vehicle ownership documents into Apple Wallet for added convenience. Furthermore, residents will now find it easier to exchange their foreign driving licences, as the process has been simplified.
Vehicle ownership certificates will now be issued directly from car dealerships, eliminating the need for further paperwork or visits to government offices. In Abu Dhabi, the digital transfer of certificates is currently undergoing testing as part of these reforms. The Ministry has also removed the mandatory requirement for printing and delivering physical driving and car ownership licences, with residents now encouraged to use the electronic versions.
A unified system has been introduced to facilitate the digital transfer and cancellation of vehicle ownership, streamlining the process and reducing the need for physical documentation. These updates mark a significant shift towards faster, more convenient services for residents, all within the Ministry’s efforts to eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy and enhance the overall efficiency of traffic-related services in the UAE.
