Kerala HC rejects petition seeking to raise retirement age of judicial officers

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court said that the allegation, put forwards by a petitioner that some of the judges connived with criminals and secured post-retirement appointments, was very serious.

This observation was made by the court as it rejected a plea filed by Abdul Jaleel, a native of Kozhikode, requesting that the central government should be instructed to raise the retirement age of the judges of the Supreme Court, High Courts and all judicial officers up to the age of 75 years.

The petition also demanded that the Center be directed to take steps to make sure that judicial officers do not accept government posts after their retirement.

The petition states that the government should amend the constitution if needed, and raise the retirement age of judicial officers to 75. They should pass an order directing that the judicial officers do not accept any post under the Government even after retirement from service, the New Indian Express reported.

Further, the order shall remain in force until a statutory provision is made in this regard. He also demanded that a division bench of the Supreme Court should be set up in all the High Courts of the country to ensure speedy justice for the poor people.
