Kochi: Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) will not have 10 percent seats reserved in MBBS admission this academic year, reports say.

Earlier Medical Council of India (MCI) asked in a letter to the state government to increase seats for these sections.

Only colleges with 200 seats or less will have an uptick in the number of seats, as part of providing 10 percent EWS quota for MBBS course—and only one government medical college meets this criterion.

As per MCI guidelines, in order to meet 10 percent reservation, the uptick should be 25 percent of current admission.
