HC extends stay on pvt hospitals binding to provide Dr's details
text_fieldsKochi: The High Court extended its stay by three months on a directive of the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission which bound all private hospitals to maintain a register showing the permanent address, mobile number and e-mail address of doctors working in hospitals.
It also mandated that the hospitals should provide those particulars to patients on request.
The interim order of Wednesday came on a petition filed by A.V. Jayakrishnan, Chairman, Kerala chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA). challenging the order. The petitioner argued that the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 or the Rules did not give authority to the commission to issue such general mandatory directives to public authorities.
He also pleaded that the commission's order would run counter to the right to privacy of the doctor concerned, as mobile number and e-mail IDs were their private property, over which they had the exclusive right.
