One month's pay: order to be issued soon
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: The government has put forth a provision to give a month's pay for the rebuilding of the state following the devastating flood.
Finance Minister Thomas Isaac urged the representatives of the staff service organisations during a meeting with them.
The salary can be donated in lump sum, or in 10 installments. Those who are willing to contribute the leave surrender money can also consider that option.
The donation from the monthly salary given earlier will be accounted for when the deduction is made from one month's salary. There will not be any compulsion.
The Minister said that those who are not interested can back out after giving their objection in writing.
At the same time, the teachers and staff service organisation conveners allied with the opposition said that they cannot accept the move to deduct a month's salary. The employees and teachers in the flood-affected areas will not be able to give a full month's salary. In this situation, the compulsion of giving a month's pay is unfair.
The conveners also opined that a consent letter must be allowed for the employees in order to donate the salary of the number of days of their choice, instead of the 'Yes or No' option.
N K Benny, the chairman of Federation of Employees' and Teachers' Associations
(FETO) told reporters that they would go to any extent if the move is to compulsorily deduct a month's pay.
Minister Isaac told the media that the employees has generally adopted a favourable approach in donating their salaries. The matter of availing a provident fund loan instead of salary to make a donation had also come up.
The order will be issued in 2 days after considering the suggestions.
When the concern regarding the retaliatory attitude towards those who were hesitant to give their salaries was pointed out, the Minister reacted that such a fearful situation does not exist in Kerala.
