CIAL files insurance claim of Rs. 336 Cr
text_fieldsKochi: Among the spate of insurance claims to be handled by the insurance companies following the floods in Kerala last month, there is one that may stand out. New India Assurance Company (NIACL) has received a claim of Rs. 336 crore from Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), which suffered extensive damage in the floods last month.
The airport company has an insurance coverage of Rs. 2,500 crore from the NIACL.
The airport was closed initially with a temporary suspension of operations for about three hours from 4 a.m. on August 15, and them remained so for two weeks following the floods.
Following the floods, as much as 30 lakh sq ft of its built-up area and 1,400 acres of operational area were covered under a thick layer of slimy mud.
The restoration works commenced on August 20 soon after the waters began to recede and the airport resumed commercial operations on August 29.
