Malappuram: A man killed himself by hanging in his house on Friday after a mob attacked him on August 28 for allege trespass.

Photos circulating on social media showed the youth, hands tied with a rope apparently after a rough-up, in a pitiable state.

Muhammed Sajid, 23, a native of Kuttipalla in Malappuram, was found hanging inside his house at Paccickerpadi. His family members rushed him to the hospital but was declared dead.

Sajid was attacked by a group of people on Monday night when they found him in suspicious circumstances. He was then tied up and beaten by the group.

The visuals of the attack was captured on the mobile phones and widely circulated through WhatsApp.

Sajid's family have raised protests against the police for not taking the required action despite their complaint.

A night patrol team of Kalpakanchery police had arrested Sajid after locals complained that he trespassed into a house in Kuttippala in an inebriated state.

The police took him to a hospital for medical examination. The police said he had not been injured and that his family had filed no complaint. The man was subsequently let off.

The relatives said that the photos circulated fast which would have prompted Sajid to take the extreme step.

The body has been sent to Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode for a postmortem examination.

Action would be taken against those who are found guilty, said the police.
