Thrissur: Private buses will go off the roads from November 1 onwards in the state.

The bus operators' co-ordination committee has taken the decision in the meeting held on Saturday at Thrissur.

The bus operators want the minimum fare to be raised to Rs 10 from Rs 8. Apart from this, they demanded students' concession to be made Rs 5.

In the meeting, the bus operators wanted the government to take immediate action to give relaxation in tax payment.

They complained that the bus fare was hiked last March when diesel price was Rs 62. As diesel price increased by Rs 18, it is difficult to operate bus services without fare revision.

The bus operators added that they are ready to hold discussions with the government.
