Nipah virus: 11 of the affected 12 died

Kozhikode: State Health Minister KK Shailaja has said that tests confirmed that 12 in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts were infected with Nipah virus. Of these 11 died. One person is undergoing treatment.
Two more people died on Tuesday at Kozhikode Medical College due to the virus infection. 11 people, who have shown symptoms similar to those who were affected by the fatal virus, are under observation.
Tests showed that Lini, a nurse of Perambra Taluk hospital, who died on Monday, was infected with Nipah virus.
Fearing a virus outbreak, dead bodies of the deceased are not handed over to the families. The bodies will be cremated under the supervision of the authorities of the health department.
Meanwhile, the health department has opened a helpline number: 1056 for clearing the doubts regarding Nipah virus.
