Bishop offered Rs 5 cr hush money: Nun’s brother

Kottayam: In his statement to Vaikom DySP the brother of the nun, who accused Jalandhar Bishop of sexual assault, said the Bishop had offered hush money to the tune of 5 crore.
Bishop offered the money through a mutual friend at Kalady to withdraw the case against him. Alongside he proffered higher position to the nun in the congregation. But the nun’s brother conveyed to the Bishop of his determination to go ahead with the case, the statement said.
The offer was made after the phone talk the nun had had with Cardinal George Alencherry got leaked, according to the statement to the DySP. The investigating team had earlier also recorded the brother’s statement.
At the time he talked of having been under pressure to settle the case. Meanwhile, police had found him to be behind leaking the nun’s phone talk with the Cardinal. This prompted police to record this statement again.
