95 Branches in 52 Engg Colleges have no takers in 2nd round merit allotment
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: With the second round of allotment to engineering seats now complete, colleges see most vacant seats in branches of Electrical and Electronics. And all institutions without any takers for seats are in private sel-financing colleges. At the end of the second merit seat allotment, a total of 95 batches in 52 colleges did not have any students opting for seats under merit category.
In 29 colleges, neither branch (Electrical and Electronics) had a single taker. In 12 colleges, no single student opted for the merit seat of Mechanical branch. In 9 colleges, computer Science too went without merit category candidates. And so with Civil branch in 6 colleges.
Two colleges in each of Electronic & Instrumentation, and Applied Electronics branches, and one college in IT branch did not get any seat-seekers.
The branch for which maximum number of students sought admission this year is Computer Science, i.e. 3607, followed by Mechanical (3,130), Civil Engineering (3,074) and Electronics & Communication (2612) and Eectrical & Electronics (2060) in that order.
In the five branches of Institute of Science & Technology-Kottayam, not a single candidate sought admission under merit category, and four branches of Axis College, Thrissur had the same fate. Sree Ernakulathappan-Mukundapuram, KR Gowriamma College of Engineering-Thuravoor, Vinjaan Institute- Piravam, Baselius Thomas-Koothaattukulam and Ponnempadam Vedavyaasa College-Malappuram are colleges where three branches did not get allotments under merit category.
23 other colleges did not have any seekers for two branches.
With the next, i.e. third allotment, the allotment by Entrance Test Commissioner for self-financing colleges will be complete.
