Peace International School: Govt likely to delay releasing of closure order
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: The government is likely to hold the order to close Peace International School in Ernakulam, which is facing government action for allegedly teaching 'non secular curriculum'.
As per reports, the authorities are of a view that closing down the school when just a few months are left for the current academic year to end, might invite criticism from the public.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had ordered the school’s closure following complaints that the institute taught its students non-secular curriculum. The order was given based on enquiry reports by the Education Department and the District Collector.
The Chief Minister had asked to shift the students in the Ernakulam school to other schools in the region. The government has also decided not to give NOC for obtaining CBSE affiliation to the school.
Kozhikode-based Peace Foundation has more than 10 branches in Kasaragod, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kollam, Ernakulam, and Mangalore. It is uncertain if the latest action against the school in Ernakulam would affect the functioning of the other branches.
According to reports in October 2016, the school material had questions such as “how many of you are willing to die for Islam?”
The police had then conducted raids in the school and filed a case for promoting enmity between different religious communities. The police had also registered a case against School Principal, Administrator and Management Committee members.
Even though the school is affiliated to CBSE, it followed the textbooks published by Mumbai-based Burooj Realization, an Islamic educational institution. The PTA officials of Chakkarapparam Peace International School informed that they have not received any intimation regarding the closure ordered of the school, and that the school has approached the court for obtaining CBSE approval which they hope to obtain within this year.
The police are now trying to bring the school Managing Director M M Akbar from abroad.
