Kannur airport: Gulf airlines gearing up to operate international routes
text_fieldsInernational airlines from the Gulf countries are gearing up for flights connecting Kannur International Airport.
The airlines that have expressed such interest include Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, Gulfair, Oman Air, and Air Arabia. It is expected that when the airport goes operational in September, these airlines will start flights between Kannur and their respective countries.
Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) MD Balakiran has held discussions with the airlines in connectdion with commencement of services.
In addition to these foreign airlines, Indian carriers such as Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo, GoAir, Jet Airways and Air Asia will also enter the fray. Discussions were also held regarding extension of existing domestic services to Kannur, and the airlines are said to be interested in the proposal. An understanding has been reached with 13 domestic airports including Delhi, Bengaluru, Thiruvananthapuram and Chennai.
The meeting was attended by airline officials including Kamal Kilkkani (GoAirways), Rajat Kumar (vice preident of IndiGo), Neville Mehta (Jet Airways), Jagtesh Saini (Air Asia), AS Sanjay (Gulfair), Nidhi Mehra (Qatar Airways), Monsi John (Spice Jet) SBS Jacob (Air India), Balu Abraham (Oman Air), Sreejith Warrier (Etihad Airways) and Anil Vijayan (Air Arabia).
