Kottayam: Government will see to that all school vehicles in the state are GPS enabled.

An order pertaining to this would be issued in the offing. Vehicle failing to comply with the order would not be allowed to ferry students, ADGP K. Padmakumar said to Madhyamam Daily.

The new arrangement was made in the wake of increasing accidents involving school vehicles.

School vehicles plying services without GPS gadget would not get test report, he said. Alongside, checking of vehicles would be made strict. GPS monitoring of school vehicles would be under the state Transport Commissionerate.

Information thus garnered would be passed over to concerned officials. C-Dac( Centre for Development of Advanced Computing) would manufacture the systems.

Master control room would monitor over-speeding, assault against girls and other untoward activities. There would be in place special siren to check speeding.

Siren from speeding vehicle would go off in the vehicle as well as the nearby control room. This would help officials control the speed, leading to take action against the driver.

Public could also help control speeding vehicles. GPS would alert officials in case vehicle lean over about 40 degree.

The system would detect falsification of speed governor. In the beginning GPS would be enforced in all school vehicles before extending the same to hired school vehicles.

School vehicles that already have GPS facilities would have to fit new ones. Efforts are on to enforce strict control over all vehicles. Private buses would have to fit GPS shortly. They have been granted six months to comply, Commissioner said.
