Amnesty takes back highest honour from Aung San Suu Kyi

London: Dissatisfied with Aung San Suu Kyi’s “indifference’ to atrocities against Myanmar’s Rohingya Muslims, Amnesty International on Monday stripped Suu Kyi of its highest honour Ambassador of Conscience Award.
The London-based global human rights organization conferred the award to Suu Kyin in 2009 when she was still under house arrest.
"Today, we are profoundly dismayed that you no longer represent a symbol of hope, courage, and the undying defence of human rights," Amnesty International chief Kumi Naidoo said in a letter to Suu Kyi.
The group said it cannot continue to justify her status as a recipient of the honour. Suu Kyi was informed of the decision on Sunday and she hasn’t yet made any public response.
Earlier, Canada stripped her of honorary Canadian citizenship for failing to speak up for Rohingya Muslims.
