Israeli Cyber-attack leaves Amnesty in a quandary
text_fieldsLondon: Amnesty International on Wednesday linked a recent cyberattack against one of its employees to Israeli-made spy software.
A 20-page report said the employee received an Arabic message on the phone through WhatsApp.
The message about a Saudi embassy protest was a bait to trick the worker into clicking on the link, the probe found. It was found to be linked to Israeli surveillance vendor NSO Group.
The employee received the message while working in Saudi Arabia.
Clicking on the link could lead to installing malware that would turn the victim's electronic device into a tracking tool, and hackers could listen in on conversations.
The cyberattack caught Amnesty unawares, causing the international organization to highlight the risk posed to activists by surveillance technology.
