You can update your documents on Aadhaar online for free for next 3 months
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that residents can now update their documents on Aadhaar online free of cost for the next three months.
This move is a part of the Digital India initiative, and residents are urged to take advantage of the free document update facility on the myAadhaar portal. The free service is available from March 15 to June 14, but only on the myAadhaar portal, and a fee of Rs 50 will continue to be charged at physical Aadhaar centres, as before.
The UIDAI has been encouraging residents to upload Proof of Identity and Proof of Address (PoI/PoA) documents to revalidate their demographic details, especially if Aadhaar was issued ten years ago and has never been updated. This will lead to improved ease of living, better service delivery, and enhanced authentication success rates.
If there is a need to change demographic details such as Name, Date of Birth, Address, etc., residents can use the regular online update service or visit the nearest Aadhaar centre. In such cases, normal charges will apply.
Over the past decade, the Aadhaar number has emerged as a universally accepted proof of identity for Indian residents. Almost 1,200 government schemes and programs, run by both central and state governments, use Aadhaar-based identification for the delivery of services. Additionally, several service providers, including financial institutions such as Banks, NBFCs, etc., use Aadhaar to authenticate and onboard customers seamlessly.
According to the Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Regulations, 2016, Aadhaar number holders may update their supporting documents in Aadhaar, at least once, on completion of every ten years from the date of enrolment for Aadhaar, by submitting POI and POA documents, to ensure the continued accuracy of their information.
