New Delhi: Interim stay was extended by the Supreme Court on Monday on the Allahabad High Court's order appointing a commission to audit the Shahi Idgah Mosque, which is located next to the Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.

The case was scheduled for an additional hearing in August by a two-judge panel that included Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta. It stipulated that the interim orders must be followed up until that point. “All interim orders will continue. Re-list the matters in the week commencing August 5,” the bench ordered, the New Indian Express reported.

The bench was hearing arguments concerning the disagreement between the Shahi Idgah Masjid and Krishna Janmabhoomi. A series of petitions challenging the Allahabad High Court's ruling constituting a committee to inspect the mosque have been filed by the Shahi Idgah Masjid Committee.

The mosque committee's appeal against the Allahabad High Court's decision to combine 15 lawsuits pertaining to the Krishna Janmabhoomi against the Shahi Idgah Masjid issue was denied by the highest court in a previous ruling.

Advocate Tasneem Ahmadi appeared for the mosque committee and Senior Advocate Shyam Divan appeared for the plaintiffs.

The dispute is related to Mughal emperor Aurangazeb-era Shahi Idgah mosque at Mathura, which the other side argues was built after demolishing a temple at the birthplace of Lord Krishna.
