New Delhi: Gujarat Police conducted simultaneous raids at journalist Ravi Nair’s residences in Kerala and Delhi on Monday, hours after the Gujarat High Court refused to quash an FIR registered against him over a social media post concerning a Washington Post investigation into LIC’s alleged investments in Adani Group companies, according to Maktoob Media.

During the search in Kerala, police seized two mobile phones belonging to Nair. At his Delhi residence, officials confiscated his son’s laptop, an iPad, and an iPad belonging to a colleague who was present. Neither the son nor the colleague has been named as an accused.

The searches formed part of an investigation arising from Nair’s post on X about an October 2025 Washington Post investigation he co-reported with Pranshu Verma. The report alleged that government officials had prepared a proposal in May 2025 to direct about $3.9 billion from state-owned LIC towards Adani Group businesses. It was based on internal documents, interviews with current and former officials and discussions with bankers familiar with the group’s finances.

The case began after an Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) employee in Ahmedabad filed a defamation complaint over Nair’s post on April 22. A subsequent complaint led the Gujarat Police to register an FIR invoking provisions concerning cheating and alleged forgery of documents.

Nair approached the Gujarat High Court seeking its cancellation, arguing that LIC’s denial of the Washington Post report did not establish that the underlying documents were forged. The court, however, ruled on August 11 that the authenticity of those documents must be determined through investigation.

The searches followed an Ahmedabad magistrate court’s authorisation issued on August 17.
