PM Modi in US for 3-day visit; to attend Quad Summit
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in Philadelphia, late on Saturday night, beginning a three-day trip to the United States to attend the fourth Quad Leaders Summit in Wilmington, Delaware. When Modi arrived, he spoke with Indian expatriates outside the Philadelphia airport.
US President Joe Biden stated in a welcome address to the Quad leaders that they are more than just necessary to maintain an open and free Indo-Pacific region.
“They’re friends of mine and the friends of our nation,” he said in a post on X. “I look forward to all we’ll accomplish in the Summit ahead,” Biden added, Indian Express reported.
On September 21, American President Joe Biden will host the summit in his hometown. The next Quad Summit is scheduled to be hosted by India in 2025. Prior to departing, Prime Minister Modi announced his agenda for the summit in a statement before departure.
“Today, I am embarking on a three day visit to the United States of America to participate in the Quad Summit being hosted by President Biden in his hometown Wilmington and to address the Summit of the Future at the UN General Assembly in New York,” he said.
He added: “I look forward to joining my colleagues President Biden, Prime Minister Albanese and Prime Minister Kishida for the Quad Summit. The forum has emerged as a key group of like-minded countries to work for peace, progress and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.”
The Prime Minister went on to say that his meeting with President Biden would allow the two countries to chart new paths "to further deepen India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership".
“I am eagerly looking forward to engaging with the Indian diaspora and important American business leaders, who are the key stakeholders and provide vibrancy to the unique partnership between the largest and the oldest democracies of the world,” he added.
At a time when former US President Donald Trump has faced two assassination attempts, security for PM Modi's visit has been ramped up considerably.
The US Secret Service has "enhanced" security at and around the sites where the Prime Minister will visit in Delaware and New York. This is also taking into account the dangers from pro-Khalistan elements in the United States. The Special Protection Group (SPG) and the US Secret Service are also arranging Modi's security in New York, where he will meet the Indian diaspora on September 22.
