Pahalgam attack: NIA files supplementary chargesheet against LeT founder
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday filed a supplementary chargesheet against Pakistan-based terrorist and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Saeed in connection with the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 people.
The supplementary chargesheet, submitted before the NIA Special Court in Jammu, names Hafiz Saeed both in his individual capacity and as the chief of the banned terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its proxy outfit, The Resistance Front (TRF).
According to the NIA, Hafiz Saeed has been charged under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. The agency has also invoked charges relating to waging war against India and criminal conspiracy allegedly orchestrated from across the border.
The supplementary chargesheet forms part of the agency's continuing investigation and expands upon the original 1,597-page chargesheet. It outlines Pakistan's alleged conspiracy, Hafiz Saeed's alleged role in the attack, and the evidence gathered through scientific investigation and extensive ground verification.
In its original chargesheet, filed on December 15, 2025, the NIA had named Pakistani terror handler Sajid Jatt, three terrorists killed during Operation Mahadev in July 2025, and two arrested accused. The agency had also chargesheeted the banned LeT and TRF as legal entities for their alleged role in planning, facilitating and executing the attack.
The terror attack took place on April 22, 2025, in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where Pakistan-backed terrorists allegedly carried out religion-based targeted killings. The assault claimed the lives of 25 tourists and one local civilian.
The case was initially registered as FIR No. 25/2025 at Pahalgam Police Station in Anantnag district. Following a preliminary investigation by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Ministry of Home Affairs transferred the probe to the NIA.
The agency said investigations in the case are continuing to uncover the wider conspiracy and Pakistan's alleged role in sponsoring terrorism in India.
