Neemuch: A college teacher was killed and his 10-year-old son critically injured after a policeman allegedly rammed his sports utility vehicle into multiple motorcycles in Neemuch district, Madhya Pradesh, officials said on Sunday. The boy’s legs had to be amputated to save his life, while three others were also hurt.

The family of the deceased alleged that the accused, sub-inspector (ASI) Manoj Yadav, was intoxicated at the time of the accident on Friday night. Yadav, who has since been suspended, was produced in court on Saturday and granted bail, Additional Superintendent of Police Naval Singh Sisodia told PTI. Sisodia added that Yadav’s medical report to confirm intoxication was still awaited.

According to police sources, the incident occurred near Bhadbhadia village on the Neemuch-Jawad road, when Yadav, driving his private Bolero, allegedly hit several two-wheelers.

The deceased, Dasharath Singh (42), died at the scene. His son, Harshit, sustained grievous injuries to both legs, which required amputation. Singh’s wife, Lalita (35), and daughter, Jaya (6), also sustained injuries. Another motorcyclist, Bhupaal Singh (44), was hurt when his bike was struck by the ASI’s vehicle. Several other motorcycles were damaged, and a few people suffered minor bruises, police said.

Following the accident, relatives of the deceased staged a protest, claiming Yadav was drunk and demanding strict action along with financial compensation for the teacher’s family.

Cantonment City Superintendent of Police Kiran Chouhan said a case has been registered against Yadav for causing death due to rash and negligent driving.
