Living new born girl floats in a box in Ganges, Police launches probe
text_fieldsVaranasi: Uttar Pradesh Police have launched an investigation into the newborn baby found floating in the River Ganga.
After being rescued a week ago, she is being given medical attention at the district hospital. Police officer OP Singh said that the baby is fine and the government will look after her. He added that the police are trying to find out where she came from.
The one-month-old girl was discovered by a boatman, Gullu Chaudhary after he followed a sound coming from the edge of the river. He found the wooden box which was lined with red cloth. Along with the child, there were images of Hindu gods and a horoscope. The date and time of the birth were given in the document. The girl is named Ganga, after the Holy River in which she was found.
The boatman said that he would like to raise the girl considering her as a gift from the river goddess Ganga. The authorities haven't responded to it. He also works as a priest.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had tweeted praising the boatman and saying that the state government will make the arrangements for the upbringing of the child. He added that the boatman will also be eligible for government schemes.
