Lalu Yadav calls fuel price cut 'Modi Govt drama' for UP
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav slammed the Central government announcement of petrol and diesel prices cut, terming it a drama eyeing on the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Calling the cut inadequate from which people are unlikely to get any relief from the burden of high fuel prices that have seen more than Rs 30 increase in the last six months.
The RJD leader reached Delhi on Wednesday for a routine check-up and tests.
He alleged that the Modi government has "done drama" of reducing petrol prices by Rs 5.
"If the prices are reduced by Rs 50 per litre, then it will bring relief. Petroleum prices will be increased again after UP elections," the RJD leader told ANI.
The Centre on Wednesday reduced excise duty on petrol by Rs 5 and that on diesel by Rs 10.
RJD leader and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav said that the price of petrol should be brought down below Rs 70 per litre.
"Earlier, BJP felt that Rs 70 per litre petrol was costly and now they have raised the prices above Rs 100 per litre. They should bring the price of petrol under Rs 70 per litre at least," he said.
