Iranian couple apologises after offering namaz inside a temple complex near Taj Mahal

An Iranian tourist couple who were visiting the Taj Mahal in Uttar Pradesh performed namaz inside a temple premises, unaware it was a temple, as they found it a clean place, only to face objections from local residents and later found themselves in trouble after the residents informed the police.

As the incident garnered attention, the Iranian tourist posted a video online to express remorse for his actions, explaining that he was unaware the site was a Hindu temple. He clarified that his choice of location for prayer was not influenced by religious or communal intent. The tourist further stated that he would have refrained from offering namaz at the site if he had been informed about the rules governing conduct within the temple.

The local police are currently investigating the matter to understand the context of the couple's actions and to assess whether any temple guidelines were breached. Authorities acknowledged that the tourist’s apology video indicated a lack of malicious intent but emphasized that an investigation is necessary to ensure the incident does not provoke unrest.
