New Delhi: Congress party said on Sunday that the BJP couldn't understand the intricacies of Rahul Gandhi's remarks in his address at Cambridge University, PTI reported.

The main Opposition to the BJP-led Centre in India, the Congress reaction came after BJP accused Rahul of maligning India and praising China abroad.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh posted a video on Twitter and said, "Rahul Gandhi clearly defines in his Cambridge lecture the key differences between a state-controlled corporation system as there is in China and the pressing need for democratic nations like India to ramp up production mechanisms - the intricacies of which are lost on the BJP."

"Whereas PM Modi simply gushes over his 'close friendship' with the Chinese," he tweeted, adding a video montage in which PM Modi talks about ties with China.

In Cambridge, Rahul Gandhi said that democracy is under attack in India and many politicians are under surveillance, including himself. He furthered that there are five aspects of the attack on democracy which are capture and control of the media and judiciary, surveillance and intimidation, coercion by federal law, attacks on minorities, Dalits and tribals, and finally, muzzling dissent.

Referencing a decline in manufacturing in democratic countries such as India and the US in recent years as production shifted to China, Rahul had said the shift had produced mass inequality and anger, which needed urgent attention and dialogue.

BJP reacted to Rahul's statement by wondering whether he is an agent on the payroll of some agency to bring down the country. They accused him of denigrating the country. It further stated claiming that Rahul is dissuading investors from investing in India at a time when the world is seeing the country as a "bright spot", and foreign firms are leaving China to do business here.
