"Heartbreaking", says Greta Thunberg on India's COVID-19 crisis

NEW DELHI: Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg on Sunday has called the recent crisis that India faces due to shortage of medical oxygen "heartbreaking" and has asked the global community to step in and provide India with the necessary assistance to tackle the second wave of coronavirus infections.
"Heartbreaking to follow the recent developments in India. The global community must step up and immediately offer the assistance needed," she tweeted.
Meanwhile, the daily cases in India have surged to over 3.46 lakh new infections, with 2,624deaths in the last 24 hours.
The massive caseloads have caused critical shortages of hospital beds, medical oxygen and related equipment.
In Delhi, several big and small hospitals treating corona patients raised SOS on the lack of medical oxygen. The family and friends of covid patients were seen rushing from pillar to post, and crying on social media to find hospital beds and oxygen.
Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote to all CMs for providing the Capital city with the necessary help.
"I am writing to all CMs requesting them to provide oxygen to Delhi if they have spare. Though the Central govt. is also helping us, the severity of corona is such that all available resources are proving inadequate," he tweeted.
Many countries, including the United Kingdom, European Union and France, have expressed their solidarity with India.
