New Delhi: Indian Forest Service officer Susanta Nanda recently shared a video of a tiger sniffing around and inspecting a plastic bag supposedly left behind by a tourist. Wild animals finding plastic is dangerous because they can consume it by mistaking it for something else. They can also end up getting choked or suffocated.

"Spare the tiger reserves. Plastics are entering the food chain of the apex predators in the least expected areas covering less than 2.25% of our total geographic area. Be responsible," wrote the officer.

Netizens called the incident "alarming" and called for stricter control. One user said that they once found a disposable syringe on the ground at a national park.

Someone also said single-use plastic should be strictly banned because it is the root cause of the problem everywhere.
