Mandla: A tigress, T-27 popularly known as Dhawajhandi aka DJ, gave birth to five cubs in Madhya Pradesh's Kanha Tiger Reserve (KTR). She was spotted for the first time on Saturday in Mukki Zone in Mandla district, said field director SK Singh.

The mother is about nine years old and probably gave birth to the cubs in November 2022 because they look about three months old now, said senior wildlife veterinarian Sandeep Agrawal. Tourists have been excited after seeing the tigress.

According to the All-India Tiger Estimation Report 2018, Madhya Pradesh was home to 526 tigers, the highest in any state in India. The work on the next tiger census in the country was completed last year and the report is now due.
