DK Shivakumar outlines Congress agenda for Telangana and Lok Sabha polls
text_fieldsHyderabad: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, laid out the Congress party's primary focus ahead of the Telangana Assembly elections and the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Following a meeting of the reconstituted Congress Working Committee (CWC) in Hyderabad, Shivakumar stated that their sole agenda was to secure victory in the Telangana Assembly elections and to support the INDIA bloc, of which Congress is a part, in prevailing over the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the next general elections, reported ANI.
Shivakumar said, "Our only agenda is to win the Telangana (Assembly) elections and help INDIA emerge victorious in the next general elections. There is no other agenda at this point."
Addressing the Special Session of Parliament set to commence on Monday, the Karnataka deputy chief minister expressed disappointment in the session being convened without a clear agenda.
He remarked, "What is evident from this (Special Session of Parliament) is that there is no law in the country. This had never happened before in the history of our parliamentary democracy. There is no agenda on the table for this special parliamentary session. This is very unfortunate."
The Special Session, scheduled until September 22, will initially be held in the old Parliament building and later shifted to the new one on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
On a related note, the CWC, during its Saturday meeting, adopted a resolution to make the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) an ideological and electoral success. The newly constituted Congress panel also adopted multiple resolutions encompassing political, economic, security, and other pertinent matters.
The resolution emphasised the Congress party's determination to ensure the success of the INDIA initiative, aiming to free the nation from divisive and polarising politics. The goal is to strengthen social equity and justice while ushering in a Union Government that is responsible, responsive, sensitive, transparent, and accountable.
Party leader Jairam Ramesh, during a press conference on Saturday, announced that the CWC would discuss preparations for assembly polls in five states.
