New Delhi: Consumer complaints against online shopping platforms are rising sharply in India, with Flipkart recording more than 1.33 lakh grievances last year, according to figures cited by the Centre in the Lok Sabha. Amazon and Meesho followed closely, underscoring the growing problems consumers face when shopping on major e-commerce platforms.

Flipkart received 1,33,000 complaints through the National Consumer Helpline, followed by Amazon with 91,248 and Meesho with 29,284. Myntra recorded 25,384 complaints, while online pharmacy Netmeds received 19,895. Zepto accounted for 5,774 complaints, Blinkit 5,102, Naaptol 4,079, VLE Bazaar 3,907 and Nykaa 3,405.

Delivery failures emerged as the biggest source of consumer frustration, with 79,818 complaints registered over products not being delivered during the year. Consumers also reported receiving incorrect products, being denied refunds, getting damaged goods and facing unauthorised withdrawals from their accounts.

The National Consumer Helpline has played a significant role in recovering money for affected consumers. Between April 2025 and June 2026, its intervention helped consumers recover more than Rs 91 crore. Nearly Rs 63 crore of that amount was linked specifically to complaints involving the e-commerce sector, highlighting the scale of financial disputes arising from online purchases.

Consumers can contact the helpline at 1915, via WhatsApp or SMS at 8800001915, or by email at nch-ca@gov.in. Complaints can also be filed through consumerhelpline.gov.in, the National Consumer Helpline app and the UMANG app. The service is available in 17 languages, including Malayalam, making it easier for consumers to seek redressal.
