Chennai techie, 22, run over by truck while trying to avoid pothole
text_fieldsChennai: A 22 –year-old IT professional died after being run over by a truck in Chennai on Tuesday.
The victim, identified as Shobhana, was trying to turn around a pothole in Maduravoyal area when she fell from her two-wheeler.
A truck, ferrying industrial sand, ran over her, killing Shobana on the spot. Police arrested the truck driver, Mohan, who fled from the scene.
She was on her way to drop her brother off at NEET coaching class, India Today reported. Her brother had a miraculous escape.
Poonamallee police had to reportedly retrieve Shobana’s body from under the truck, before taking it to Porur Government hospital for autopsy.
The death of the young profession made people raise concerns about potholes on a stretch of road in Maduravoyal where the fatal accident occurred.
Shobhana, was an engineer at Zoho, a private company. Sridhar Vembu, the CEO of Zoho, tweeted blaming the accident on the bad road.
“One of our engineers, Ma Shobana’s died tragically when her scooter skidded in the heavily potholed roads near Maduravoyal in Chennai. She was taking her younger brother to school. Our bad roads have caused a traffic loss to get family and Zoho”, tweeted Sridhar Vembu.
After people expressed concerns over the bad state of the road, authorities patched up the potholes in an hour after the accident.
