CBSE extends class 12 answer sheet verification and re-evaluation deadline
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has extended the deadline for Class 12 students applying for the verification and re-evaluation of their answer sheets by 24 hours.
Initially scheduled to close on June 6, students now have until midnight on Sunday, June 7 to submit their applications. CBSE officials stated that this decision was made in the best interest of the students, many of whom faced technical glitches while accessing the portal, alongside an overwhelming surge in traffic that resulted in more than seventy thousand applications being filed.
This crucial post-result service is designed to maintain transparency and ensure grading accuracy. The process requires students to first apply for and receive scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets before they can officially request a verification of marks or a re-evaluation of specific questions. To make this system more accessible this year, the Board has revised its fee structure, charging a nominal flat amount for the initial verification and a set fee per question for re-evaluation. Students are reminded that once this re-evaluation is completed, the newly awarded marks are final and binding, with no further appeals permitted.
The unprecedented spike in applications is largely tied to CBSE's expanded rollout of its On-Screen Marking system, a digital initiative aimed at reducing human error and improving efficiency. Despite those goals, the transition faced notable teething issues as students reported receiving blurred scanned copies and discovering skipped markings on their papers. In response to these challenges and to ensure the process remains smooth, the Board has activated a dedicated helpline to support anxious parents and students navigating the system.
With board results playing a decisive role in higher education admissions, the final re-evaluation outcomes expected by July will be critical. This deadline extension serves as a vital reassurance to students that their technical grievances are being heard, while the upcoming final results will be essential in restoring public confidence in CBSE’s new digital evaluation system and its commitment to fairness.
