Aashir Sinha, grandson of Yashwant Sinha, joins Congress in Jharkhand
text_fieldsIn a political development, Aashir Sinha, the son of former BJP MP Jayant Sinha and grandson of veteran leader Yashwant Sinha, has joined the Congress, according to The Indian Express.
This move comes shortly after Jayant Sinha was denied a ticket to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Hazaribagh, a constituency that goes to the polls on May 20. Instead, BJP MLA Manish Jaiswal has been chosen to contest from Hazaribagh against Congress's Jai Prakash Bhai Patel.
Notably, this election marks the first time since 1998 that no member of the Sinha family will be contesting from Hazaribagh. The Congress hopes that Aashir’s entry will attract the traditional vote bank of Yashwant Sinha to their side.
While Aashir’s specific role within the Jharkhand Congress is yet to be determined, the party sees his inclusion as a strategic advantage. Meanwhile, the BJP remains confident about retaining the Hazaribagh seat despite these developments.
