Kathmandu: Three Indian mountaineers were among 274 climbers who successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest from Nepal’s side, setting a new record for the highest number of ascents recorded in a single day.

All 274 climbers reached the 8,848.86-metre peak on Wednesday, including 150 Nepalese Sherpas, according to Rishi Ram Bhandari, general secretary of the Expedition Operators Association in Nepal.

The Indian climbers who were part of the record-setting summit team are Tulasi Reddi Palpunoori, Sandeep Are, and Ajay Pal Singh Dhaliwal.

Officials said this spring’s ascent now stands as a new record for the highest number of successful summits in a single day. A total of 502 climbers had obtained permits to attempt Everest during the spring 2026 season.

Previously, the record stood at 223 climbers, achieved in May 2019 from the Nepal side.

On Thursday, another Indian climber, Lakshmikanta Mandal, also reached the world’s highest peak, scaling Everest alongside eight others, including six Sherpas, according to expedition organiser Pioneer Adventure Pvt. Ltd.

Several additional records were also set this season. Nepal’s Kami Rita Sherpa broke his own record by summiting Everest for the 32nd time, while Lhakpa Sherpa became the first woman to scale Mount Everest 11 times.
