Tehran: Five Iranian girls had gone viral for dancing to Selena Gomez's song 'Calm Down' on International Women's Day. The regime has since then forced them to confess that they had made a mistake.

In the TikTok video, girls were seen dancing and wearing jeans and crop tops. They were not covering their heads. Iranian police on Friday visited their apartment block and arrested them. The development was shared by a Twitter account reporting on the Ekbatan neighbourhood where the girls live and shot the video.

In stride with the ongoing protest against the strict dress code imposed by the Islamic regime, young Iranians slammed the arrest. And most people posted their own dance videos to the song in defiance. American singer Selena Gomez also reshared the original video in support of the teen girls.

The police forced the girls to "confess" that they made a mistake by posting the video and signing a statement saying that they will not do it again. It is a procedure used by Iranian police for misdemeanours and "moral crimes" committed by first-timers.

Since the protests started in September, the regime has hanged four people for "waging war against God".
