Mumbai: Akshay Kumar, known as a nationalist Bollywood actor, declared his renunciation of Canadian citizenship and provided proof of acquiring Indian citizenship on the 'X' platform.

The actor shared an image of his official Indian citizenship documents on Twitter, making it clear that his heart and citizenship both belong to India.

Taking to his ‘X’ handle, Akshay Kumar, born Akshay Hariom Bhatia, shared a picture of his Indian citizenship documents, accompanied by the message, "Dil aur citizenship, dono Hindustani. Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind." This announcement marks the fulfilment of a promise Akshay made during the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in 2019 when he had vowed to apply for an Indian passport.

Addressing the criticisms surrounding his Canadian citizenship, the actor stated, "Having a Canadian passport does not mean I am any less of an Indian. I am very much Indian." He further clarified, "Yes, I had said it in 2019, I applied for it. Then uske baad pandemic aagaya. Uske 2-2.5 saal sab kuch band hogaya. Renounce ka abhi mera letter aagaya hai (Then the pandemic happened and everything shut down for 2-2.5 years. My renounce letter is here) and very soon my whole passport will be coming."

Akshay Kumar's fans and followers flooded his ‘X’ timeline with congratulatory messages and warm wishes on his newfound Indian citizenship. The actor's dedication to his country was applauded by many, acknowledging his contributions to both the Indian film industry and the nation as a whole.

On the professional front, the actor's latest release, "OMG 2," co-starring Pankaj Tripathi, has been making waves at the box office. Additionally, his upcoming projects, including the Hindi remake of "Soorarai Pottru," an action thriller "Bade Miyan Chote Miyan" alongside Tiger Shroff, and the eagerly awaited fifth instalment of the hit comedy franchise "Housefull," have fans eagerly anticipating his on-screen magic.
