Amma to restitute Dileep

Kochi: Actor Dileep, who was expelled from Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) due to an alleged involvement in the abduction of a female Malayalam actor, is to be reinstated in the association soon.

An annual general body meeting held here the other day opined that procedures were not followed in the expulsion of the actor. However, final decision will be taken only at the next executive committee meeting.

The annual general body meeting pointed out that the decision to expel the actor was taken by an available committee attended by eight of the seventeen members of the executive. If available committee meeting takes a decision on an urgent issue, the decision should have been discussed in the subsequent committee meeting and an explanation should have been sought from the defendant. Such a procedure was not followed.

The byelaw stipulates that action can be taken only if the explanation served by the defendant is unsatisfactory. However, such procedures were not followed. Hence, the expulsion of Dileep from the association was pointed out as an invalid action.

Several members supported Dileep. It was pointed out that, Dileep did not approach courts against the organisation, though matters were in favour of him.

The leaders held that as it is a subject beyond the agenda of the meeting, the next executive committee meeting will discuss the issue.
