Amazon delays offer letters of campus recruits in India: report

New Delhi: Online retail giant Amazon is delaying employment offers to new recruits from India’s top universities, according to NDTV citing a report by Mashable.

A graduate from IIT Bombay, who is waiting to be placed as Software Development Engineer, reportedly found the start date on his offer letter moved to January.

The company reportedly has new recruits in wait from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and National Institute of Technology (NIT) experienced delays in placement.

The disappointed candidate said that many applicants experienced similar delays as the problem spreads to al IIT campuses, resulting in interns receiving offer letter later than expected.

The situation has to do largely with current slump in IT enabled companies with many of them downsizing employees.

Amazon has reportedly laid off 500 employees across India a few days ago as part of cutting jobs.

This latest round of job loss comes after Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy announced in March broader layoffs which affected nearly a staggering 9,000 employees.

The world’s largest online retailer last year was struggling to cope with setback in sales after consumers returned to their ‘pre-pandemic behaviours’.

Other tech giants including Google, Meta, and Facebook reported slowdown in market with all of them cutting major chunk of jobs.
