Boycott Muslims call: SC orders to videograph Hindu groups event

New Delhi: As a step to check hate speech, the Supreme Court has directed the Maharashtra government to videograph the scheduled Hindu Jan Akrosh Sabha event on February 5 in Mumbai and submit a copy of the recording.

The top court made such an order after a petitioner contented that in a previous event conducted by the organisation, on January 29, delivered hate speech against Muslims, demanding a boycott of the community, Hindustan Times reported.

The court also recorded the solicitor general's statement on the matter that the event would be granted permission only with the condition that no hate speech would be delivered and law and public order would be maintained.

Later, the court asked the state government to produce the action taken on the January 29 event where BJP MLA T Raja Singh delivered inflammatory speeches.

A bench of Justices KM Joseph, Aniruddha Bose and Hrishikesh Roy had said on Thursday that nobody was taking action against the hate speeches despite its orders, adding that the court will be left "embarrassed again and again" if it is asked to give further directions to restrict such deliveries.

The court then agreed that the plea on the matter needs instructions and approval from the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, on the administrative side.

Advocate Nizam Pasha and Rashmi Singh appeared for the petitioners and brought up the rally conducted by Hindu Jan Aakrosh Sabha on January 28. The rally, attended by 10,000 people, demanded a social and economic boycott of Muslims.
