Young Americans want Israel dissolved, handed over to Hamas: poll

Washington: A poll in the United States suggested that most of the young Americans believe Israel should be dissolved and handed over to Hamas, the fighter group representing Palestine and waging war against the Jewish nation, Hindustan Times reported.

Harvard-Haris, the poll conducted this week inferred that 51 per cent of Americans, aged from 18 to 24, choose the end of Israel as a solution for the Israel-Palestine conflict. And the resulting state must be ruled by Hamas.

Thirty-two per cent of said age group favoured a two-state solution, which could create an independent state of Palestine next to Israel, and 17 per cent believed that Arab nations should take in Palestinians.

However, this is a stark contrast to the two-state solution backed by older generations of Americans. Only 4 per cent of Americans aged 65 and above voted for the end of Israel.

Further, the poll found that 60% of the 18-24 age group believed that Hamas's attack on October 7 was fair. The attack that killed 13 Israelis could have been seen as a response to Palestinians' sufferings, they believe. However, only 27 per cent of the total American population believes so.

When 58 per cent of young Americans believe that Hamas wanted to commit genocide against Jews in Israel, 60 per cent of them think that Israel commits genocide against the Palestinians. But, only 37 per cent of Americans raise the latter accusation. Also, 53 per cent of young Americans said that students should have the right to call for the "genocide of Jews" without facing any consequences, HT reported.

Sixty-seven per cent of young Americans believe that Jews should be seen as oppressors, while 73 per cent of Americans believe that it is a false ideology.
