Abu Dhabi authorities said six people were injured after air defences intercepted a drone over the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD) on Thursday afternoon.
Officials said shrapnel fell at two locations in the ICAD 2 area following the interception. The debris caused minor and moderate injuries to six residents of Pakistani and Nepalese nationality.
Authorities said warning sirens were activated during the incident. Booming sounds heard across parts of the UAE were attributed to air defence operations. Relevant teams are monitoring the situation and taking measures to ensure public safety. Residents were advised to rely on official sources for updates.
On March 4, the Ministry of Defence said that since February 28, when it described the start of Iranian aggression, 189 ballistic missiles had been detected. Of those, 175 were destroyed by air defences, 13 fell into the sea and one landed on UAE territory.
The ministry said 941 drones were detected, with 876 intercepted and 65 falling within the UAE. It added that eight cruise missiles were detected and destroyed, causing some collateral damage and three fatalities involving Pakistani, Nepalese and Bangladeshi nationals.
According to the ministry, 78 people have been injured in total.
Authorities again urged the public not to circulate rumours and to obtain information from official channels only.
