Mohamed bin Zayed elected as new President of UAE

Dubai: His Highness Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu was elected as the new President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on Saturday.


Khaleej Times reports that the 61-year-old will succeed Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who passed away on Friday, to become the country's third president of UAE.


Sheikh Mohamed, who is also the Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, was elected by the UAE's Federal Supreme Council.


He will hold office for a five-year term before being eligible for re-election.
