The Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, an all-female WTA 500 tennis event, is set to deliver its most competitive edition yet as four more top players—Caroline Garcia, Marketa Vondrousova, Ashlyn Krueger and Wakana Sonobe—join the highly anticipated tournament. Scheduled from February 1-8 at the International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City, the event promises to captivate tennis fans worldwide.

The addition of Garcia, Vondrousova, Krueger and Sonobe further enhances an already strong field. Garcia, 31, has 11 WTA Tour singles titles and is a two-time doubles Grand Slam champion, renowned for her aggressive baseline play. She comes into the tournament as a wildcard and remains a formidable contender after reaching the quarterfinals of the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo earlier this season.

Marketa Vondrousova, 25, enters as a 2023 Wimbledon champion—the first unseeded female to clinch the prestigious title. The Czech star also won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, being one of the most consistent players on the tour.

American prodigy Ashlyn Krueger, 20, has shown immense promise with a breakthrough 2024 season, including her first main-draw victory at a WTA 1000 event and a third-round appearance at the US Open. Her fearless approach and powerful serve are expected to make waves in Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile, 17-year-old Wakana Sonobe represents the future of tennis. The Japanese sensation recently clinched the Australian Open girls’ singles title with a commanding performance. Sonobe earned her wildcard entry into the qualifiers and will look to build on her burgeoning career.

Garcia, Krueger and Sonobe competed in the 2024 edition of the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, facing tough early-round exits. Their return brings renewed determination and thrilling potential storylines as they seek redemption on Abu Dhabi’s courts.

This year’s tournament also sees the return of defending champion Elena Rybakina, alongside prominent names like Belinda Bencic, Daria Kasatkina, Ons Jabeur, Beatriz Haddad Maia and Paula Badosa. Jabeur, a crowd favourite, is expected to draw passionate support from local fans.

In addition to world-class tennis, the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open promises an enhanced spectator experience. The Tennis Village, now spanning 15,000 square meters, will feature family-friendly activities, live entertainment, food options and interactive sports-themed activations.

Nigel Gupta, the tournament’s director, said, "With less than a week to go, we are thrilled to announce four more top players. Caroline and Marketa bring proven expertise, while Ashlyn and Wakana showcase the sport’s bright future. This year’s tournament will undoubtedly be the most exciting yet".

Tickets for the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open are available at www.mubadalaabudhabiopen.com, with prices starting at just Dh25. Children can attend the first five days free of charge, making it a perfect event for families.

As anticipation builds, the 2024 Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open promises a week of high-calibre tennis, star power, and unparalleled fan engagement, making it a sporting calendar highlight.
