Saudi Arabia halts operations at key energy facilities after attacks

Several energy facilities across Saudi Arabia have halted operations following recent attacks, according to an official source at the Ministry of Energy.

The attacks targeted oil and gas production, transport and refining sites, as well as petrochemical facilities and parts of the electricity sector in Riyadh, the Eastern Province and Yanbu Industrial City. One member of industrial security personnel was killed and seven others were injured.

Authorities said the incidents disrupted operations at key sites. A pumping station on the East-West Pipeline was hit, reducing throughput by about 700,000 barrels per day. The pipeline serves as a major route for supplying international markets.

Production at the Manifa field dropped by around 300,000 barrels per day after it was targeted. The Khurais facility, which had been attacked earlier, also recorded a reduction of 300,000 barrels per day, bringing the total production impact to about 600,000 barrels per day.

Refining facilities including SATORP in Jubail, Ras Tanura, SAMREF in Yanbu and the Riyadh refinery were also affected, with exports of refined products disrupted. Processing facilities in Ju’aymah reported fires, affecting shipments of liquefied petroleum gas and natural gas liquids.

The ministry said continued attacks are reducing supply and slowing recovery efforts. It warned of risks to supply security for importing countries and increased volatility in global oil markets.

Officials added that the situation has affected the global economy, with a significant drawdown in operational and emergency inventories limiting the ability to respond to supply shortages.
