Dubai Loop to start operations in DIFC, Dubai Mall

The first phase of construction for the Dubai Loop project will begin soon, with initial service planned in the Dubai International Financial Centre and the Dubai Mall area at a cost of Dh2.5 billion, a senior official said on Tuesday.

The announcement was made by Matar Al Tayer, director general of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, during the World Government Summit 2026.

Al Tayer said the initial phase will introduce the Loop system in key central locations as part of a pilot transport network. The project follows a memorandum of understanding signed last year at the World Government Summit between RTA and The Boring Company, founded by Elon Musk.

Under the agreement, the pilot phase will bring the Loop system to Dubai, placing the city among a limited number of global locations using the underground transport model. Once operational, Dubai will become the second city in the world to operate the system, after Las Vegas.

RTA officials said further details on construction timelines and subsequent phases will be announced at a later stage.
