Gaza: Violating the ceasefire that came into effect in Gaza on January 19, Israeli forces opened fire at crowds of refugees who were returning to their homes in northern Gaza. The military fired in the crowds on three occasions overnight Sunday, killing two and injuring nine people, including a child, the Associated Press reported.
Israel's military justified the attack, claiming that Hamas violated the ceasefire agreement and added that they only fired warning shots. In a statement, it claimed that they fired the shots at gatherings of suspects, who were advancing towards Israeli troops, posing a threat.
Under the ceasefire agreement, Israel was to allow Palestinians to return to their homes in northern Gaza, but the Zionist regime blocked the same, demanding that Hamas must free a civilian hostage, which, according to it, Hamas should have released on Saturday.
In other news, Hamas and Jordan opposed US President Donald Trump’s suggestion to temporarily resettle the Gazan population in Egypt and Jordan. Egypt has already rejected the proposal, fearing that Israel might never allow Palestinians to return. Trump made the proposal under the guise of rebuilding Gaza. However, Hamas rejected it, saying that Palestinians will never accept and they will rebuild Gaza better than before if Israel lifts its blockade, Associated Press reports.
Another development to be noted was US President Trump unblocked the delivery of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel, which was kept on hold by his predecessor and Democrat Joe Biden. Thus, Trump released the pressure point that had been meant to reduce civilian casualties during the US ally's war with Hamas in Gaza, though a ceasefire has been reached in the warn-ton enclave.
