Gaza: Health ministry in Gaza said on Sunday that at least 274 Palestinians were killed in "an unprecedented brutal attack" by Israel in an operation in central Gaza's Nuseirat refugee camp, claimed to be one to rescue four hostages in Hamas' captivity, Al Jazeera reported.
The international community called for an immediate stop to the "blood bath" after the latest attack, which also killed some 698 others. Hospitals are overwhelmed with injured, among whom some are critical. The medical sector is reeling under the flow of injured and dead bodies, Al Jazeera writes.
While the attack at Nuseirat left dead and wounded under debris for civil defence crews to find, more air strikes by Israeli forces are still going on in various places in the enclave. Al Jazeera's ground reporting suggested that the bombardment continued with intensity, and it was very difficult for the rescue crews to find the dead and injured people. There are still people on the roads and in rubble, dead or injured.
After the lightning attack by Hamas into Israeli territory on October 7th last year, 37,084 people have been killed so far, and 84,494 have been wounded, as per the stats from the Hamas-led health ministry in Gaza.
The Palestinian Authority has informed that it is pushing for an emergency session of the United States Security Council over the attack in Nuseirat. Meanwhile, Hamas claimed that Israel releasing the four captives would do no change to Israel forces' strategic failure in Gaza, particularly after eight months of starting its operation. The group reiterated its allegation that the United Nations is complicit in Israel's blood bath.
