Sonali Bendre admits to doing cringe films to pay rent

Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre said she was part of many mediocre and cringe films in the 1990s because she needed the money. She revealed that she chose to work in the film industry to make money because her family was going through a tough time.

In an interview with The Indian Express, she said there were times she asked herself why she is doing a role. But, the thoughts of the next paycheque will help her move on. She added that there are many movies she never watched after working in them because of the low quality.

Sonali Bendre started her career in 1994 with Govinda-starrer 'Aag'. Despite being known for her looks and skills, the actress did not do many critically acclaimed films at the time. She starred in some successful movies like Major Saab, Zakhm, Sarfarosh, and Hum Saath Saath Hain. Bendre later found better success in Tamil films like Kadhalar Dhinam and Kannod Kanbathellam.

About her process in doing cringe scenes, the actress said she thinks nothing is cringe when survival instinct is at play. The real cringe is not having a house to live in. She added that she did not have a godfather in the industry and never needed one.

Sonali Bendre took a two-year break from full-time acting in 2002. Two years later, she returned to work in TV. She is known for starring as a judge in Indian Idol 4 and India's Got Talent. The actress is gearing up for her OTT debut with the ZEE5 web series 'The Broken News'.

She said the OTT project drew her in after watching the original British show 'Press'. Bendre added that the producer insisted that she watch the whole show before giving an answer about working in the Indian adaptation.
