A.R. Rahman's son backs father with patriotic IPL video amid controversy

Mumbai: As controversy continues over A.R. Rahman's recent comments about Bollywood opportunities, his son A.R. Ameen has publicly backed the Oscar-winning composer by sharing a throwback IPL video featuring Rahman with an Indian tricolour GIF.

The gesture highlights Rahman's national contributions amid the backlash sparked by his BBC Asian Network interview.

On Monday, Ameen posted an Instagram Story from IPL 2022 showing Rahman at a cricket stadium, overlaid with the national flag to emphasize his father's dedication to India.

This comes after Rahman's remarks about receiving fewer Hindi film offers over the past eight years due to "communal" factors involving religion, regional identity, and industry politics drew widespread criticism.

In response, Rahman uploaded a video on Instagram reaffirming his love for India as his "inspiration, teacher and home." He clarified that his music aims to uplift and unite, never to hurt.

Rahman highlighted initiatives like Jala (presented before the Prime Minister), collaborations with Naga musicians, the Sunshine Orchestra, Secret Mountain virtual band, and scoring Ramayana with Hans Zimmer.

He stressed that his intentions were misunderstood and reiterated his commitment to cultural celebration through music.
